Gail Nancy Magnuson

Gail Nancy Magnuson; age 70 of Taylor, formerly of Allen Park. Beloved sister of Linda (Joe) Pitts, James (Deborah) Magnuson and the late Susan (James) Varner. Caring aunt of Shon Varner, John Varner, Jeremy Pitts, Jason Pitts and Erica Magnuson. Also survived by other loving cousins and friends. Gail was born in Chicago, Illinois, May 29, 1947 to Roy H. and Mildred Lorraine Magnuson. The family moved to suburban Palatine, Illinois where Gail and her two sisters attended elementary school. In late 1957, the family relocated to Flint, Michigan where they welcomed brother Jimmy. Gail graduated from Flint-Northern High School in 1965, and attended University of Michigan – Flint, graduating with a Bachelor in Arts Degree in Education. She later attended Spring Arbor College and obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Education. Gail began her teaching career in the Flint - Beecher District, teaching elementary school for a number of years. While living in Flint, Gail attended and sang in the choir at her Methodist Church. In the early 1980s, Gail relocated to Allen Park, where she taught briefly as a substitute teacher in the Gibraltar District. Gail then became her mother's loving caretaker during an extended illness, and later provided day care for her young niece. Gail served as the Building Manager at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Redford, Michigan; coordinating weddings, rehearsals and funerals and opening the church on Sundays. In 2004, Gail retired and moved to American House in Taylor, Michigan, where she enjoyed the company of many friends. She helped operate the home's movie theater and participated in many activities. Gail especially enjoyed card games, BINGO, working on puzzles, playing board games and making crafts. Gail will be remembered as a caring Aunt to her young nephews and niece, providing love and support when her family needed help. She loved taking the kids to the Toledo Zoo, Boblo- Island, movies and craft shows. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching from her home. The family suggests donations in memory of Gail to the Redford Aldersgate United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to the Michigan Humane Society.
