Born in Detroit, Frederick was the son of Thaddaeus and Katherine (Fic) Kurtycz. He graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit. Frederick faithfully served his country with the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Patricia Massey,on March 5, 1966. Sadly she preceded him in death November 28, 2008. Frederick furthered his education, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree from Wayne State University and a Master's Degree of Arts and Education from the University of Michigan. Frederick taught Elementary Education for the Detroit Public Schools for 30+ years, retiring in 1986. Frederick was a member of the American Legion in Carleton, was the Exeter Township Supervisor during the 70's and 80's, served on the Exeter Township Board of Review, was a Township Trustee and member of the Exeter Township Historical Society. He also was very active with the Maybee Library. Frederick leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Robert Kurtycz of Douglas and Chris (Ruth) Kurtycz of Grand Rapids; grandchildren: Gerrit, Kinnon and Jessica; as well as two brothers: Frank Kurtycz, Norman (Catherine) Kurtycz and a sister Eleanor Alberts. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Raymond, William, Theodore and Walter and a sister Clara. In accordance with Frederick's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of the Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. Inurnment of his ashes will be with his wife at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in his honor are asked to consider the Carleton American Legion or the Monroe County Library System-Maybee Branch.
