He faithfully served our country in the United States Army from June 25, 1945 until his discharge January 27, 1947 receiving the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal-Germany. He then married the love of his life, Catherine Bowling, on April 15, 1948. Sadly she preceded him in death January 8, 2009. A dedicated husband and family man, Fred supported his family working as a Truck Driver with the City of Detroit for over 32years, retiring in 1984. He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church here in Monroe, a member of the Monroe VFW Post 1138 and volunteered many hours of his time a local nursing homes. Fred leaves to cherish his memory his children: Linda Plichta of Monroe and Teresa (Randall) Coulter of Prescott; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; as well as a brother Robert Plichta of Livonia. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons: Fred Plichta and Jack Plichta; and five siblings: Marie Wolfe, Arnold Plichta, Grace Szabo, Elaine Whitteaker and Paul Plichta.
