Frederick “Fred” Andrew Sullivan Sr. of Southgate, MI.

September 1, 1944 – February 28th, 2024.


On the evening of February 28th, comforted by loved ones, Frederick “Fred” Andrew Sullivan Sr. passed away, very peacefully, due to ongoing vascular complications.


Preceded in death by Father Lorenzo “Frenchie” Toutant and Mother Margaret Mary Sullivan, Sisters Shirley, Dorothy, and Mary “Sue”, and beloved Son Frederick “Buck” Jr.


Survived by Son Justin (Maria) and adored Granddaughters Hannah and Julia, Daughter Trisha Susman (Darrel), Son Todd Waters (Carolina), and Stepsons Brian (Alexandria) Podczervinski and Daniel (Nicole) Podczervinski.


Fred was born on September 1, 1944, in the city of Detroit, Michigan. As an infant, Fred lived on Leverette Street in Corktown, a neighborhood in Detroit. Not long after his first birthday he moved the Herman Gardens Housing Project on the West side of Detroit. Along with his older brother, John, and his three younger sisters, Mary “Sue”, Dorothy, and Shirley, he was raised in the Gardens by his very loving mother, Margaret, for the rest of his childhood.


Growing up, He played the trumpet in elementary school and Jr. High Band. Fred was active in athletics, primarily baseball, hockey, and boxing. He enjoyed being in and around cars. He spent a lot of time hanging out and enjoying an adventurous childhood and adolescence with friends, primarily Gary, Arch, Bruce, Leo, and Joe…all of which he maintained friendships with until each of their passing.


Fred enlisted into the United States Army, serving proudly from 1962 to 1964. He was a certified Marksman. He was deployed with the 6th Battalion, 9th Field Artillery out of Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He spent most of his time overseas in Germany.

Fred loved playing guitar, classic cars, all types of music, horses, boxing, Sanders, baseball, Lafayette Coney Island, Daly Drive-In, and Muhammad Ali.

Most of all he loved his family and the many caring friends he had. He absolutely adored his two granddaughters, Hannah and Julia. He was their Papa and he always let them know how special they are.

Rest in Peace, Dad. We will all miss you!


Fred’s cremated remains will be scattered amongst some of the places he loved most.
