Frank Moore played third base in the late innings of the softball game on Hickory Day, 1978. He hit into a double play and his team, The Lowers, lost the game for manager Bob Wrobleski. It was Frank's first day as a Hickory Island resident. Frank worked at Ford and sometimes drove to work at the RenCen with his friend, Dave Coakley. Dave invited Frank over for a cup of coffee on Memorial Day, 1978. It was a warm, sunny, perfect day and Dave asked Frank if he would like to move to Hickory Island. Dave knew that his neighbor, Mrs. Thompson wanted to sell her house, and Dave wanted Frank to be his neighbor. Dave also had gotten Don DuMouchelle and Frank together when Frank bought Don's boat. Frank needed a place to keep the boat and Dave said the Hickory Island Yacht Club would be available to dock the boat if Frank bought a house on Hickory Island Frank loved his home, the view, living on Hickory Island, its residents and traditions. He was an active member of the Hickory Island Yacht Club from 1979 to 2011. He served on the Bridge many years with Dave Coakley, Bill Lange, and Bob DeVoe. He worked on seawalls, dock boards, rescue ladders, and electrical systems while a member of the Hickory Island Yacht Club. He organized cruises to Leamington and arranged Yacht Club dinners. Frank served on the Board of the Hickory Company many years often with residents Don Hartwell, Ken Hartwell, Dave Coakley, Chet Fleming, Bob DeVoe, and Bill Lange. He often alternated as treasurer with Addison Smart. Frank and Ron Konczalski were leaders in 1997 to convince residents to approve one of the largest ever assessments, the renovation of the Grounds Manager's home at a cost of $100,000. At the time of his death Frank was a member of the road committee. Frank, Jud Alford, and Bob DeVoe spent days last year driving roads that were coated with Chip Seal to see if we might use it on our road in the future. Frank was especially proud that both daughters were married on Hickory Island. Laura and Steve got married under the tree in the front of the house in September, 2010. Amy and Eric were married June 18 of this year in the Hickory Island Pavilion. Memorial gifts can be directed to Hickory Island Company Playground fund, 29820 East River.
