Florine E. Pelkey

Florine E. Pelkey, age 89 of Trenton, MI. Loving wife of Richard Pelkey, nurturing mother to Ann Pelkey Tingley, and the best Grandma to Tonya Ann Tingley, went to be with her family who proceeded her and especially her granddaughter Tonya on July 6, 2021. Florine was born on September 17, 1931 to Anna Catherine and Harper Joseph Walker. She was a loving, kind, industrious person who as a young child and the first born helped her mom take care of 15 siblings. On August 25, 1948. She married Richard J Pelkey. Their Family flourished when their daughter Ann Corrine was born in December 1948. Like most couples, Florine and Richard began their marriage with little more than the love they had for each other. However, both worked hard, he in the auto industry and she in retail sales. Within a few years, they were able to purchase a home in Trenton, MI., where they have lived to this present day. Florine worked at Ben Franklins in Trenton where she retired in 1980. After retirement, Florine spent as much time with her granddaughter as possible. This was by far her favorite past time. When not spending time with Tonya and during the Spring and Summer months she would be spending much of her time with Richard (her Richie) on the Detroit River or Lake Erie fishing. In the winter, it was Bunko at the Trenton Community Center. When not involved in those activities, she enjoyed preparing dinner for a Sunday family gathering and staying in touch with her numerous brothers and sisters. Florine is survived by her husband Richard of 73 years, her daughter Ann (Tiger) and son-in-law Bob. Her only grandchild, Tonya Ann, passed away in 1989. She leaves behind three brothers, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews. Her caring personality touched many in her nearly 90 years of life. For that reason, even in her passing, she will live on in the hearts of others for some time to come. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Florine may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
