Evelyn Highlund

Highlund, Evelyn Marie Birch died peacefully at home on November 5, 2006. She was 103 years old. Evelyn was born and grew up in Rapid River, Michigan where she taught country school until the family moved to Detroit. During WWII, Evelyn worked as a riveter in the Detroit aircraft plant. After the war she worked as a school secretary for the Detroit Public Schools. She volunteered as a Grey Lady and delivered Meals on Wheels. Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Elmer, and her siblings, Dorothy Birch, Doris(Kermit) Sundling, Basil (Ruth) Barr, Jack (Nell) Birch, Charlie(Mary) Birch, Elinor Birch and Helen (Clare) Barr. She is survived by her children, Jim (Sharon) Highlund and Mary Lou Lorenz Dietz; by her grandchildren, Nikki and Leif (Patti) Lorenz, Evanne (Pavel) Dietz, Pete, Trish, Paul (Lisa) and James Jr. Highlund, Penny (Ron) Neagos; and great grandchildren, Colten, Mac and Liliana Lorenz, Nadia Dietz, Jorden, Jackson, Brandi, Paul Jr., Jacob, Matthew Highlund, Brittany and Mandy Zeddi, and Melissa Neagos. Evelyn was loved and appreciated by her large extended family and her many friends.
