Emanuel Vella

Emanuel Vella, 84, of Allen Park, Michigan, passed away July 7, 2017 at the August Winter Home in Howell, MI. Born December 9, 1932 in Luqa, Malta, he was the son of Paul and Andreanna (Farrugia) Vella. After arriving the USA, he served stateside in the U.S. Army. He married the great love of his life, the late Grace (Xuereb) Vella in Detroit in 1956. They were married for 57 years until Grace's death in 2013. Emanuel worked for many years in the Steel Division of the Ford Motor Company at the Rouge plant. He is survived by his seven children, Rev. Edward Vella, C.Ss.R., John (Kathleen) Vella, Carmen (John) Lesperance Vella, Anthony (Jo Ann) Vella, Lawrence Vella, David Vella, and Andreanna (William) Laitenen, three sisters Carmen Mifsud, Tessie Debono, and Censina Mangion, and one brother Luciano (Lois) Vella, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emanuel was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Edward and Joseph, a sister Mary (Paul) Vella, infant daughter Josephine and young daughter Catherine. Visitations in honor of Emanuel will be held at the Allen Park Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Road, Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with a Christian Vigil Service at 7:15 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Rev. Edward Vella, C.Ss.R. of Wisconsin, at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 12 at St. Frances Cabrini Church, Allen Park, Michigan, preceded by visitation for 30 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, next to his wife Grace.
