Edward M. Gabryszewski, age 71 in Newport, MI passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Born September 13, 1947 in Detroit, Ed was the son of Albert and Dorothy Rumptz. Prior to graduation from high school, Ed enlisted and faithfully served our country in the United States Marine Corps from October 14, 1964 until October 11, 1968. While in Vietnam, he received the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars, the Purple Heart Medal, National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Good Conduct Medal. On April 20, 1968, Ed married the love of his life, Connie Chacksfield, in Royal Oak. After his military service, he worked as an engineer for GE, then served as a Police Officer in Sterling Heights for 15 years. He then went on to pursue his degree in Aviation and lead an accomplished life as a Helicopter Pilot working for Channel 2 News Sky 2, starting the Medivac Program at the University of Michigan Hospital, flying corporately for Gannett out of Washington D.C., then flying at St. Vincent Hospital and finally Henry Ford Health System before retiring in August of 2012. Ed was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and the Monroe County Rod and Gun Club where he participated as a Competitive Marksman winning several matches in his lifetime. Ed leaves to cherish his memory, Connie, his wife of the past 50 years; his daughter Cara Gabryszewski of Chicago, Illinois; a brother James (Christine) Rumptz of Clearwater, Florida and nephew Scott Rumptz.
