Dr. William Q. Taylor

Dr. William Q. Taylor (Bill, “Pop Pop”), age 97, formerly of Plymouth and Grosse Ile, MI, passed away on May 9, 2020 in Riverview, MI. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lois Taylor (April 4, 2016) and three sisters Etta Hawthorne, Nancy Simonin, and MaryLou Fitch. Bill is survived by his two daughters Dr. Beverly (Dr. Ronald) Morris and Billie (Patrick) Jones; Four Grandchildren Jon (Lily) Morris, Dr. Christine (Dr. Nathan) Cutler, William (Jordan) Jones, and Katie Jones; three great grandchildren Axel and Mila Morris, and Vivian Cutler; and two sisters Judy Smith and Dorie Froelich. Bill was born in Monessen, PA (2/27/23) to Frank and Margaret Taylor. He grew up working in his father’s pharmacy running errands and making deliveries. He joined the navy in 1942; starting as a corpsman and finishing as a mid-shipman pharmacist mate on an LST. After the navy, he went to college, graduating with a Pharmacy degree from Pitt and returning home to run his father’s original drug store and several other family drug stores in the Washington PA area. In 1950, Bill met Lois, the love of his life. In 1955, he became a father. In 1960, he sold the family pharmacy business and went to medical school to become a physician. In 1965, he graduated from Philadelphia Osteopathic and moved his family to Garden City, MI to complete his residency. Shortly thereafter, he opened a practice in Livonia, MI and raised his family in nearby Plymouth, MI. After their kids had gone to college, Bill and Lois moved often, and built many houses along the way. Bill’s favorite houses were always on the water, and included homes in Seabrook Island (SC), Harbor Beach (MI), and Vermillion (OH). Bill finally retired, and decided to move to Grosse Ile, MI. Bill lived a long, happy, and adventurous life. He was a devoted husband, a sharp dresser, a Fellow of the American Academy of Physicians, a coin collector, a sailor, a WWII Navy veteran, an avid reader, a Presbyterian, a lover of big band music, a photographer, a Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian with over 35 years of perfect attendance, a Shriner, a Michigan football fan, and the proud owner of a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. He loved sitting outside anywhere with a good view of the water. He truly appreciated the time he had with his family and friends, and he was always relied on to say grace before big family meals and events. Bill was a great many things to many people, but to his closest friends and family he was a trusted advisor, a steady force of consistent calm, and a gifted storyteller. Bill told lots of stories, but his favorite stories were about meeting his wife, watching his children and grandchildren grow up, and all of the interesting people he met on his many journeys throughout life. He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten by his loved ones. A memorial service may be planned at a later date. Contributions in memory of Dr. Taylor's life may be made to Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church or Rotary International.
