Dr. John S. Szewc Jr.

Click on the tribute wall above to view Dr. Szewc's video tribute. Dr. John S. Szewc Jr., age 84 of Grosse Ile passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021. Born March 30, 1937 in Detroit, John was the son of John and Mary (Filipiak) Szewc. He married the love of his life, Elaine Barnhart, on September 5, 1959. He worked as an educator for both Carlson High School and Wayne County Community College for over 30 years. John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed performing with barbershopping groups, bowling, golfing, camping and was an avid antique collector and seller. John leaves to cherish his memory, Elaine, his wife of the past 61 years; children: Dawn (Joe) Carpenter, Susan (Warren) Johnson and Judith Brochue; seven grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and two siblings: Lillian Kean and Paul (Hillary) Knight. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorthea Rogalski, brother Richard Szewc, parents and his step-father Paul Knight Sr. Memorial contributions in honor of John may be made to Mimi’s Mission; www.mimismission.com.
