Dr. Donald P. Mitchell, Jr.

Dr. Donald P. Mitchell, Jr. of Riverview, Michigan passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 94 on Friday, September 23, 2022. Beloved husband of 72 years to Marion Mitchell. Loving father of Gail (Bruce) Vos and Lynn (Bruce) Bishop. Cherished grandfather of Justin (Tabby) Vos, Bryan (Stephanie) Vos, Emily Bishop, Mark (Ksenia) Bishop, and Taylor (Mackenzie) Bishop. Dear great-grandfather of Sydney Vos, Walter Vos, Whitney Vos, and Henry Vos. Caring brother of Ronald Mitchell. Donald will be deeply missed by many loving family and friends.

Donald had been a life-long fixture of the downriver community and enjoyed a long and successful career as an educator and administrator in Allen Park and Woodhaven Schools. He was also a long-standing member of the Kiwanis club. In his spare time, he could be found enjoying his self-proclaimed “greatest vice”, golf. His great joy and natural talent was entertaining friends and family with music and magic, and it was always a treat to watch him perform. He was happiest surrounded by a crowd doing card tricks with a deft hand and a famous quick dry wit. He was always the consummate performer.

Visitation for Donald will begin Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. and continue until the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Trenton Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 3200 West Road, 48183. The Allen Park Kiwanis Club will perform a Kiwanis Memorial to begin the service at 2:00 p.m. followed by Rev. Tim Marvil performing the funeral service. The Downriver Veterans Honor Guard will perform military rites at the chapel mausoleum, followed by interment at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association in Donald’s honor.
