Douglas Edward Mcintosh

Douglas Edward McIntosh, age 59 of Trenton, MI, passed away peacefully at home on May 29th, 2020 from complications of diabetes. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. McIntosh, M.D. and his fiancé, Katy Ball. Doug had a passion for the care and well-being of young and old alike. Whether it was his years working for the Grosse Ile Recreation Department, planning, maintaining and organizing activities for groups of all ages or being a caregiver for local seniors providing comfort to those in need. One of Doug’s favorite outings was accompanying the Grosse Ile seniors group to Mackinac Island and staying at the Grand Hotel. He also loved helping to grow the Grosse Ile Azalea Festival to the current Islandfest. His greatest joy was his secretive roles of Santa Claus and the Easter bunny entertaining the children of Grosse Ile and Fairlane Town Center. Doug also served on the board of The Senior Alliance of Wayne County helping to enrich seniors’ lives. Doug was a self-taught musician who loved writing and performing. He especially enjoyed gatherings of his many friends for karaoke while sipping a pint or two of Killian’s Irish Red. His time at Michigan State University singing and bonding with his brothers of Delta Tau Delta were memories he cherished. Doug also participated in the Islanders theatrical group and the Boar’s Head Festival. His love of music, entertainment and world history made him a more than formidable opponent on trivia nights which led him to meet the love of his life, Katy Ball at a local gathering. Doug is survived by his mother, Janice McIntosh of Grosse Ile, MI, his siblings, Patricia Simonson (Scott) of Naples, FL, Robert McIntosh (Ute) of Chicago, IL, Robin McIntosh (Mark Gerganoff) of Golden, CO and James McIntosh (Kim) of Evergreen, CO; and nieces and nephews, Kelli, Robert, Natalie, Stephanie, Samuel, Riley, Duncan and great niece Isla. His family and friends will miss him dearly. He had a heart of gold. May he rest in peace. A celebration of Doug’s life will take place at a later date. Donations in Doug’s memory can be made out to the Grosse Ile Recreation Department and in the memo line designate Doug McIntosh/ Islandfest and mailed to 25215 West River Road, Grosse Ile, MI 48138 or to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).
