Born in Monroe, Doug was the son of Robert and Laura (Carrier) Trouten. At the age of 17 he enlisted with the United States Army to faithfully serve his country. After returning from overseas he met and married the love of his life,Judith Collins, on February 12, 1966. Sadly she preceded him in death September 3, 2010. A dedicated family man, Captain worked hard to support his family throughout the years. He drove truck for Jones Transfer for over 20 years. After his retirement from truck driving, Captain then worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Monroe County Road Commission, retiring from there in 2002. He also spent many days on the great lakes as a charter boat captain aboard his Boat the "GOTCHA". In recent years he has been working at the Allore Funeral Home. Captain also was very dedicated to working and helping his community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army of Monroe, Frenchtown Senior Citizens and United Way of Monroe County. He volunteered for the Monroe County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, the Boy Scout Troop 579, Gabby's Ladder and numerous other organizations throughout the county. He was a member of CrossWalk Community Church, Monroe County Rod and Gun Club, Western Basin Charter Boat Association, Michigan Charter Boat Association and Amvets Post 1942. In his spare time Captain enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing. He relished time spent with family, especially his grandchildren, or "The Babies" as he would refer to them. He was always anxious to share a hunting story with anyone who would listen, "Captain Knew No Strangers." Captain leaves to cherish his memory his children: Thomas (Brandi) Trouten of Monroe, LeAnn (Tim) Lee of Monroe and Linda (John) Manor of Monroe; grandchildren: Nicholas, Brynn, Isabella, Brooke, Mark, Samantha, Shanna, Daniel and Lisa; 2 great grandchildren: Sailor and River; as well as his sisters: Janice (Daniel) Sordini, Carrie (Dale) Maurer, Debbie Gilbert, Sue Cade and Laura (Ted) Palmer. In addition to his parents and wife, Captain was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Gray. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Captain's honor are asked to consider Gabby's Ladder.
