Crooks, Dorothy L. (Galloway) of Trenton, Michigan. Born September 22, 1932 and grew up on Grosse Ile, Michigan. Beloved wife of 43 years to the late Marvin M. Crooks of Flat Rock, MI who preceded her in death in 2002. Loving sister-in-law of Charlotte Goocher of Riverview, MI and Betty Galloway of Hutchinson, KS. Dearest aunt of many nephews, nieces, and “greats”. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents E. Dexter, Sr. and Mildred H. Galloway of Grosse Ile, MI, also brothers E. Dexter, Jr. of KS and Keith D. of MI.
Following graduation from Grosse Ile High School in 1950, Dorothy attended Central Michigan College (later to become University) where she earned her elementary teaching certificate and B.S. Degree. While at college she was a charter member of Delta Zeta Nat. Sorority – Gamma Psi Chapter. She later became a representative of Delta Zeta in the Detroit Metro Alumnae Panhellenic Association and held the office of President.
Dorothy and Marvin were married on October 18, 1958 and made their home in Trenton, MI for the next 43 years. She continued to reside in their same corner house on Trenton Dr. S following his passing.
Her teaching career was with the Trenton Public School System. After being in the classroom several years, she enjoyed participating in several bridge groups, was enthusiastic about learning the sport of tennis, having time for gardening, bicycling, traveling throughout the U.S. and cruising several island areas with her husband, family, and friends. Summers were spent at the Portage Lake cottage near Dexter, MI. Many winter vacations were enjoyed in Florida locations. Photography was of interest to her. She was a Trenton Seaway Hospital Auxilian volunteer for over 40 years as well.
Dorothy’s love of life and people included her close family members, her church “family” and activities and the God Winks she came to realize in each day. Writing cards and notes to keep in touch with others was her pleasure. Smiles came easily to her. God called her home on Friday, November 10, 2023 at the age of 91. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
