Born in Freeport, Ohio, Dorothy was the daughter of Harmon & Mary (Orr) Gray. She married the love of her life, Major Ballard Neely, on October 31, 1940. Sadly he preceded her in death January 29, 2005. A dedicated homemaker, Dorothy worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II (which is where she met her husband). She also had worked at the River Raisin Paper Company, the Monroe Evening News and K-Mart. She was a faithful member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, crocheting and knitting. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her son Robert (Linda) Neely of Monroe; grandchildren: Kimberly (George) Shaw, Robert (Hiroko) Neely Jr., Mark (Sadie) Neely and Amy (Joel) Welch; as well as seven great grandchildren: Sydney Shaw, Madeline Neely, Abigail Neely, Molly Neely, Johnna Welch, Aubrey Jones and Kaydence Jones; and her daughter-in-law Deborah Neely of Monroe. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son John Neely; a brother Franklin Gray; and two sisters: Hattie Sheppard and Ellen Sheppard. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Dorothy's honor are asked to consider Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
