Doris Wombles

Doris Wombles, age 83 of Riverview, MI, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on March 30, 2024. Born in Artemus, Kentucky to the late James Andrew and Georgia Moore Davenport. She was the beloved wife to her late husband, Clifton, of 64 years. Preceding her in death were her three brothers, (Hershel, Cecil, and Jack Davenport). She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Doris will be missed dearly by all who survive her. Loving mother to Sherry (Ken) Polzin, Charlotte (Ron) Mullins, Clifton (Christine) Wombles, Randy, and Kandi (David) Bergman. Cherished mammaw to ten grandchildren of Angela, Amber, Jason, Cheyenne, Cody, Clifton, Haley, Lucas, Mason, and Savannah; eight great grandchildren and another one expected to arrive later this year. Doris was a woman of perseverance who could weather any storm. She loved the Lord, worked hard, complained little, enjoyed holidays and celebrations but her most treasured time was that spent with her grandchildren. Most of her life was devoted to taking care of her family and being the village that her children needed when they had children of their own.

Special thanks to her daughter, Sherry, for being her caretaker during Doris’s battle with dementia providing her with the utmost love and quality of care and to her son-in-law Kenneth for his support until her passing. We would also like to thank Christina Knopp and the Hospice care team for their gentle and compassionate care through this difficult time.

Memorial Gathering will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 11:00 to 2:00 pm with the Memorial Service starting at 1:00 pm at the Allen Park Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Rd. Allen Park, MI 48101.
