Donna Marie Broughton

Donna Marie Kurtz Broughton, 82, passed to her eternal heavenly reward on Palm Sunday, April 5th, 2020, at Beaumont Hospital, Trenton. Born October 25th, 1937, Donna was the daughter of the late Raymond Charles Kurtz and Gertrude Philomena O’Hara Kurtz of Detroit. She would later marry James Samuel Broughton - the love of her life, her best friend, and lifelong companion. Donna passes her legacy to her children, Mary (Scott) Joseph, Michael (Sarah) Broughton, and Paul (Jacquelyn) Broughton; grandchildren Emily, Anna, and Cara Joseph, George, Henry, and Jack Broughton. Donna is survived by her siblings, Sr. Janet Kurtz, Betty Lynn (Ronald) Capossela, and the family of her late brother, Robert (Joanie) Kurtz. Donna earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Detroit Mercy College and later taught obstetrics. As a homemaker, Donna dedicated her life to her Roman Catholic faith, her husband and children, her extended family, and her dear friends. A prayer warrior, she attended daily Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Trenton. Donna had a wide circle of friends. She was socially active with prayer groups, a local widows club, bridge, college alumni, and craft groups. She uplifted her family and friends with her kindness, compassion, and caring for others. She will be dearly missed. For many years, Donna and her best friend, the late Patricia Gilbert, supported Manna Community Meal in Detroit by baking cupcakes every month and by raising funds for an annual Christmas donation of winter coats for the homeless. Stephen Rooney of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Trenton. A Catholic funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, August 7th, at 10:00 AM EST at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 2565 3rd Street in Trenton. The Mass will be followed by a graveside prayer service at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery the same day at approximately 11:30 AM EST. Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery is located at 32163 Huron River Drive in Flat Rock. The Mass will be live-streamed at the parish Facebook web site: www.facebook.com/stjosephtrenton.
