Donald Dana Lamb 4-19-1938 to 4-9-2022 Donald passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2022 with his family at his bedside. He was born April 19, 1938 in Warren, Ohio to the late C. Dana and Velma Lamb. He married A. Joan Balfour on December 29,1962 in East Lansing, Michigan. Don is survived by his wife Joan, sons Allan and Kevin (Sara); grandchildren Benjamin, Brendan, Trevor, David and Andrew; sisters Marilyn and Kathryn (Kate). He was preceded in death by his parents. Family time and activities were always important to him. Don lived a life of service first for his family, church and community at large. After attending Earlham College, he worked for the Ashtabula County, Ohio planning commission where he found his passion. He attended Michigan State University. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning and after a brief stint in Toledo moved to Pittsburgh, PA. During this time, he obtained his Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and eventually joined CONSAD. His professional passion was fostered from a strong desire and drive to help strengthen communities and regions over time with a focus on the future and longevity. He was a consultant for CONSAD for the SEMCOG in Detroit. He was subsequently hired by SEMCOG to develop regional planning for Southeast Michigan, moving his young family to Mt. Clemens in early 1970. He worked for years with his good friend Gary Krause and the families enjoyed many great times together over the years on Lake St. Clair. He eventually transitioned to health care planning working for CHPCSEM as their Project Review Director. He then worked for the Catherine McCauley Heath System pioneering the development of their regional network of hospitals. He completed his career of public service as the Executive Director of the Suncoast Health Council and the Health Council of West Central Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida. His love of the water and boating had begun as a teen in Ohio. His 25-foot 1961 Lyman, Voyageur II, was a major source of pleasure. This was the perfect combination of his joy of cars, engines, woodworking and water. He had a passion for craftsmanship and mechanics. He loved Chrysler cars, especially his 300C and 300L He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Clemens and on the Session as an Elder. He was a longtime board member for the Fox Chase Condominium Association. He relocated his beloved Lyman to Florida and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg. He would serve as a Board Member for the Tierra One Condominium Association as well. Culture and faith were very important to him. He had travelled to Lakeside, Ohio as a child. In 1976, he was very supportive of his parents when they bought a cottage in Lakeside (Lakeside Chautauqua). This was the only thing that would keep him off the lake in the summer. It was a perfect combination of his love of community, music and the integration of faith. He had a lifelong love of Jazz and was a devoted Dave Brubeck fan. This passion for great music was passed down from his mother and on to his sons and continues in his grandchildren. He enjoyed live Jazz and sought out venues and concerts throughout his life. He fostered a love and passion for music in his children and always had music on in the house. He was always willing and happy to share his passions and knowledge with others, especially close friends, sons and grandchildren. He led a complete and fulfilling life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He continues to serve, even in death, by donating his body to science to assist in the training of future health care providers. A memorial gathering will be held for family and friends at the cottage in Lakeside, Ohio at 1 pm on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
