Dolores A. Turek

TUREK, DOLORES A.; age 82, of Grosse Ile, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015. Born September 1, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, Dolores was a 50-year resident of Grosse Ile. Known for her love of gardening and nature, she passed this passion on to many people, especially her family. She was a 50-year member of Sacred Heart Church and was involved in a wide array of parish activities, most recently the role of Eucharistic Minister. She was a longtime active member of the Grosse Ile Garden Club, helping with many projects, including the rejuvenated Four Corners garden, which was very close to her heart. Dolores was also a current member of the Hawthorn Questers 619, which enhanced her love of antiques. For many years, Dolores loved playing tennis and golf. Her other special interests included bridge, crossword puzzles, reading, going to the beach and shelling, playing the accordion, watching classic movies and reading. Dolores enjoyed collecting small bird replicas and rocks. In fact, it was well-known to her family that there wasn't a rock or stone she didn't like. Dolores loved being a homemaker, but most importantly a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest wish was that her children and their families would have the same happiness that she experienced throughout her life. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mathilda Moravec. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph R. Turek; son Thomas (Colleen) Turek of Chelsea; daughter Mary Jo (Thomas) Gallagher of East Lansing; daughter Therese Cardoze of Grosse Pointe Farms; son Timothy (Carol) Turek of Maple Valley, WA; daughter Anne (Thomas) Graves of Grosse Pointe Farms; daughter Stacey McKay of Augusta; 15 grandchildren - Lauren (Dan) Garrett; Aaron (Heather) Turek; Joseph (Emily) Turek; Brian Gallagher; Robert (Sarah) Gallagher; Katherine Gallagher; Robert Cardoze; Alexis Cardoze; Madalyn Turek; Kevin Turek; Thomas Graves; Sarah Graves; Caroline McKay; Katherine McKay; Annalise McKay; 6 great-grandchildren – Abigail, Connor, and Robert Garrett; Gabrielle and Lillian Gallagher; Sophia Turek; and sister Lorraine Voss. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 10, at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 21599 Parke Lane; Grosse Ile, Michigan. Visitation will take place before the Mass, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a memorial contribution to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund
