David “Big Dawg” Shefferly, age 71 of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Born January 17, 1949 in Detroit, David was the son of Walter and Helen (Robinson) Shefferly. A graduate of Cherry Hill High School, he married the love of his life, Betty Jean Scott, August 11, 1988. Sadly she preceded him in death December 20, 2013. David worked for Ford Motor Company as a Production Manager for over 31 years, retiring in 2002. He also had worked for the City of Monroe as a Reserve Police Officer. David was a past member of the Monroe Jaycees, member of the NRA and National Wildlife. He was also very actively involved with volunteering for Ducks Unlimited where he held several positions over the course of 40 years. His positions included: Chairman of the Monroe Chapter, Zone Chairman, District Chairman and State Chairman. David was also a Diamond Life Sponsor in Perpetuity. David leaves to cherish his memory his children: Troy Alan Aker, David (Sara) Shefferly II, Julianne (Jeff) Geierman and Laurie (Kevin) Schwartzenberger; as well as three grandchildren: Jonathon Passmore, Lauren Passmore and Penelope Shefferly. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by three siblings: Walter Shefferly Jr. Richard Shefferly and Carolyn Cole. Due to current COVID-19 gathering restrictions, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
