Cheryl Wallace May

Cheryl May, beloved mother, Mimi, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 3, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 69 years old.

Born on November 30th, 1954 in Oakland, California, Cheryl was known for her dedication to education and her unwavering passion for teaching. As a Trenton Public School teacher for over 30 years until her retirement in 2017, she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues alike. Cheryl cherished the friendships she formed during her time there, finding joy in nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning. A proud graduate of Trenton High School in 1972, she pursued her passion further, earning a Master's of Education from Eastern Michigan University. Beyond her professional life, Cheryl found immense happiness in creative pursuits such as painting with her beloved "paint girls," and she adored her faithful dog companion, Teddy. Her love for nature extended to her fondness for flowers and the gentle flutter of hummingbirds. Cheryl's adventurous spirit was evident in her love of travel, with one of her fondest memories being a Disney cruise with her children and grandchildren in August 2023. However, her most cherished role was undoubtedly being a Mimi to her eight grandchildren. She delighted in sharing her passion for reading, crafts, baking treats, and enthusiastically attending their various activities. Above all, Cheryl's greatest joy was simply being surrounded by her family, whom she loved unconditionally.

Cheryl was a devoted mother to two children, Allison and Andrew, and a loving mother-in-law to Dennis and Selena, and most importantly a cherished Mimi to her eight adoring grandchildren. She was also a beloved sister and daughter, known for her compassionate nature and unwavering support of her family.

Her warm smile and infectious laughter will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cheryl leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to enriching the lives of others. Her impact on her students, colleagues, and community members is immeasurable, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.

Cheryl is survived by her devoted children, daughter Allison Burke and her son-in-law Dennis Burke, son Andrew May and her daughter-in-law Selena May. She was a cherished Mimi to her eight grandchildren Benjamin Burke, Lillian Burke, Evelyn Burke, Nathan Burke, Elliot May, Jude May, Leo May, and Norah May. Cheryl's supportive siblings include her brother Jeff Wallace and his wife Pam Wallace, and her brother Kevin Wallace. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Jacqueline Daily Wallace, and her father, Robert Paul Wallace.
