Charles H. Flaishans, Jr.

Flaishans, Charles Jr, age 91, of Gibraltar, Aug 10, 2010. Beloved husband of the late Grace. Loving father of Charles T. (Linda) Flaishans, Bill (Kathy) Flaishans, Cheryl (William) Bozman. Proud grandfather of 17 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Warren "Vic" Flaishans and a sister Ruth Johnson. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings Violet, Edith, Joyce and Harry. Born October 3, 1918 in Grosse Ile, MI to Edward and Ethel (Alexander) Flaishans. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1938, where he lettered 4 years in basketball and baseball. Charles then worked as a boilermaker through local #169 Detroit, until he was called to serve his country from 1943 to 1945 in the U.S. Army. Prior to going over seas he married his High School sweetheart, Grace Wilken, on Nov. 27, 1943, at Camp Crowder, MO. After the war Charles and Grace settled in Trenton where they started a family, they moved to Gibraltar in 1960 where they lived until their passing. They enjoyed camping, boating and fishing with their children. After raising their children Charles retired and he and his wife traveled in their motor home throughout the U.S. and Mexico. Charles was active in the senior Olympics, participating in swimming, horseshoes and softball throwing. He was a life member of VFW Post #4230 Rock of Gilbraltar, where he was active in the post, parades and activities. He was also an active union member marching in Labor Day Parades and volunteering with picnics.
