Charles F. Kittle

Charles Frederick Kittle, 95, long time resident of Trenton and Holly, Michigan, passed away 11/10/2020 of natural causes at American House in Riverview, Michigan. Charles was born September 14, 1925 to Frederick Nelson and Mary Leona Kittle in Huron Township, Wayne County Michigan on the family property. He was a graduate of Flat Rock High School, after returning home from WWII. He married his beloved wife, Lois Mae Grill of Roosevelt, Minnesota in July of 1947. They were together for 73 years. Charles is survived by his wife Lois, four children; Richard (Karen), Victoria, Keith (Teresa) and Mary; six grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren, and his sister Evelyn Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Kittle; brother, John Kittle and sister, Agnes Preston; and grandchild, Joshua Kittle. He was a WWII Navy Armed Guard Veteran who served in the Italian, African, Middle Eastern, and Asian Theaters of war. Charles was also a member of American Legion Amel Schwartz Post 149 Holly, Michigan. He was employed by the Trenton Fire Department, retiring as Battalion Commander. He was a devout Catholic and a member of both St. Joseph (Trenton) and St. Rita (Holly) parishes. His passion was building and creating things. He built and remodeled homes throughout his life, eventually having a home woodshop where he built cabinetry and furniture. Charles was always an ambitious contributor willing to help anyone with a project. In his later years he enjoyed making Christmas ornaments and giving them away as gifts. Gardening, both flowers and vegetables, was also a favorite hobby. Charles was a much-loved family man and a dear friend to many. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Martenson Funeral Home of Trenton Michigan. A private family viewing is scheduled at St. Joseph Church. His burial, with military honors, will follow at Michigan Memorial Cemetery. Due to the rise in Covid infections in Michigan, the family asks that only immediate family members attend. In Lieu of flowers and donations, please take a moment to reflect on Charles’ life and the impact he had on you. The family hopes that in the future, when things are again safe, Charles’ family and friends can gather and celebrate his life’s journey.
