Charles E. Matelic

Matelic, Charles E., age 73, April 29, 2020 of Allen Park, Michigan. Beloved husband of Susan. Loving father of Scott (Carol), Brian (Lesley), Kelly (John) Cathy. Proud grandfather of Devin, Brandon, Anthony F, Anthony, Ava, Kyle, Brody. Dear brother of Siblings Louise, Antoinette, Anthony, Thomas, Lauris, John,Daniel and the late Francis, Stephan. The Story of Charles Matelic: the world has lost a great one, to many of you a brother, to many of you a best friend, to some an uncle, to some of you a brother in law, to some a Papa, to some of us just “dad”. There are no magical words that will ever ease the pain of the loss, or that can bring someone back so I will just tell you all of the good that I can. It all started for the “Matelic” family in Southwest Detroit, where they laid down a long-lasting legacy, and which the name will live on forever. My Dad did it the hard way, from getting Polio as a young kid, survived it, and never looked back. My Dad then grew up as “Chucky” . Everyone loved him, he was the smallest Matelic, but you would have never known that he stood up as the biggest. I cannot tell you how many great stories people have told me over the years. One funny one, that comes to mind that he told over and over was I was coming out of School in the 5th grade, and I looked nervous and he said “Brian what’s wrong?” – I said “Dad the Cowboys killed me last night and you see them big guys standing over there, I owe them 5 bucks”. He laughed and gave me the $5 and I paid them. He may not have taught us Algebra or History, but he taught us life, which I am ever so grateful for. My Dad never went a day without “Liking” a post or “Commenting” on one that I was right. I could always count on the notification shortly after posting, that is one of the constant reminders that I will miss the most. My Dad went out of his way to make sure he said “hello” to you or wish you a happy birthday, or whatever your special day was. He was not blessed with an endless bank account, but his heart was worth way more than money can ever add up to. My Dad has 10 brothers and sisters, of which 7 are now left plus hundreds of nieces and nephews. The Matelic family will live on – we have so many great memories and the stories will always bring us joy. He was married for 47 years to my Mother Susan, and had 3 kids: Scott, Me (Brian), and Kelly – of course I was the favorite and I am ok with that! Charles leaves behind 4 brothers and 3 sisters: Anthony, Tom, Louise, Cecil, John, Dan, and Lauris. He was preceded in death by Francis, Stephano, Grandpa Anthony Matelic, and Grandma Ida Matelic. He leaves behind 7 grandkids, Amanda, Brandon, Devon, Anthony, Ava, Kyle, Brody. He also leaves behind our Mom Susan, in which she will have a large void to fill. Life is not always fair. We all know this, but I can tell you he never suffered in any way. He went to sleep on the couch, and did not wake up. We can only be grateful that there are some people waiting on the other side with open arms that need him now as his job on earth is done. My Grandma Ida Matelic said many times the 2 greatest days we will ever know; are the day we are born and the day we die. These words are true spoken from one of the greatest ladies we would all have ever known. We will always keep you in our hearts Charles E. Matelic and there will not be a day that we do not smile about you! I want to make this clear to everyone – WE ARE NOT SAYING GOODBYE, your job is done here and until we all meet in heaven again you will have the place all laid out for us! Thanks for the memories, thanks for all you have done, and most importantly protect us now from all evil-until we meet again – WE Love you! Respectfully Submitted: Brian Matelic (on behalf of the entire Matelic Family and all our precious friends).
