Catherine "Kitty" Sclafani

On July 21, 2023, Catherine “Kitty” Sclafani passed away. She was 96 years old. Born to Frank and Frances Batstone on May 23, 1927, and the wife of Sam Sclafani for 46 years, both were very active in the Downriver Italian American Club. She was a devout Catholic and worshiped at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Trenton.

Beloved mother of three children, two preceded her in death, Mary Ann aged 2, and Frances aged 27 and is survived by her daughter Josephine Wahl (Sclafani) and son-in-law Arthur Wahl, grandsons Sean and Andrew, and three great-grandchildren.

Kitty had a 40-year career in the Detroit Public Schools as a school secretary, an avid reader, and a volunteer at her parish church. She loved her pet dogs throughout her life and had a love for making Italian food for her family.

A family visitation will be at 9:00 am on Monday, July 24th at St. Joseph’s Church in Trenton followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery in Brownstown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead donate to the National Federation of the Blind.
