Catherine Bernice Rejefski

Catherine Bernice (Bunny) Rejefski, 101, of Southgate, MI, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 30, 2019, surrounded by her loving children. She was born July 6, 1918, in Detroit, the daughter of the late Willis and Mary Ellen Houk. In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willard Edward Rejefski, in 1987. Catherine gave up her job soon after marrying Willard to raise their family, sons Bill and Bob and daughters Cathy and Susi. Her family was her life and joy, and her great love encompassed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love also extended to her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Talking about any of them would be sure to bring a smile to her face. Catherine didn't slow down when she reached her 70s. She learned to drive at age 70 and continued until age 92. She was a Detroit Tigers (baseball) fan since her teenage years. In 2015, at age 97, she was thrilled to throw out the first pitch for a Tigers game. Her 100th birthday party in 2018 was another source of great happiness in her later years. It even led to best-selling author Susan Mallery naming a character in her latest book after her. She leaves behind son and daughter-in-law, Bill Rejefski and Linda Miller, son Bob Rejefski, daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Mickey Weckesser, and daughter Susi Rejefski, five grandchildren, Lynne Cooke, Melissa Tiller, Nick Weckesser, Michael Weckesser, and Tom Rejefski, and three great grandchildren, Clayton Tiller, Cameron Tiller, and Harper Weckesser. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The Allen Park Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Road, Allen Park, MI. Catherine will lie instate Wednesday from 10:30 am – 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Taylor, MI, followed by a Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown Twp., MI. Afterward there will be a reception at the Sportsmen’s Den on Sibley Rd. in Riverview, MI. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to her favorite charity, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Development Office, 1820 Mount Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48207. The Rejefski family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of her friends and family for the love and joy they brought to Mom during her life.
