Calvin Miller Pahel, age 87, died 3.6.2009, Calvin was born 9.20.1921 in Derry PA to Charles Edward & Ida Mae Miller (Pahel). He joined the U.S. Army in July of 1942 during WWII where he eventually became demobilized. He earned a Purple Heart, A Good Conduct Medal, American Service Cross and American Theatre Service Medals, as well as a Bronze Star and Victory Medal for his service to our country. He was discharged from the Military in December 1945. He eventually moved to Trenton, Michigan in 1963 where he met Ardith (Ardie) Rice. They married on 7.25.1967 bringing Ardie and her son, Bob, as well as her older sons Art & Ross into his life. His hobbies were hunting fishing and tinkering in his garage. Cal went on to work in the steel industry as a heavy equipment mechanic taking early retirement in 1984. He and Ardie then toured the US in their travel trailer for a few years before settling in Prescott, AZ. There they lived happily until Ardie sadly passed away in 1995. Cal eventually became ill in 2001 and moved back to Michigan to be under his son Bob's care with the help of his grandkids Angela and Dale Rice. He is survived by one brother Thomas of North Carolina, 2 Stepsons Art of California and Bob of Gibraltar, MI. He has many grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as 2 brothers Delbert and Eugene, 3 sisters Isabell, Dorothy, Betty and Stepson Ross Rice. Cremation has taken place through The Ford Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 23620 N. Huron River Dr., Rockwood. Veteran's services will be held Sunday 3.15.2009 at 12 Noon at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Affinity Hospice for assisting Bob and Angela with making Cal's final days peaceful. He will be laid to rest in Dewy, AZ with his beloved wife Ardie at Heritage Memorial Park.
