Billy Early Vaughn was born in Twinton, Tennessee, on March 2, 1932, to Curtis Gool Vaughn and Marie Wilson Vaughn. Raised by a farming and coal mining family, he ventured out at the age of 18 with a suitcase in his hand and $18 in his pocket and headed to Detroit, Michigan, to find work. He landed a job at Chrysler Corporation the day he got off the bus and continued to work for Chrysler for 46 years earning a Journeyman’s card in Tool and Die making. He loved his work and took pride in his tooling assemblies and mentoring and sponsoring younger men starting in the industry. Billy married Mamie Virginia Loftis on March 10, 1951. They enjoyed 69 wonderful years together. Billy was called to service in 1953, during the Korean War. He deployed to Korea with the 25th INF of Schofield Barracks, Headquarters Unit. At the end of the Korean war he returned to the states and served in the Army Reserves until his Honorable Discharge as a SGT in 1961. After moving to Allen Park in 1961, Billy and Mamie began worshipping at the Allen Park Church of Christ where they served in many areas of the church including leading the Benevolence program, serving as a deacon and an elder and, his favorite, leading singing for Sunday worship. They made lifelong friends during their 39 years at the church. Billy loved gardening and nurturing his peach trees. They canned peaches and tomatoes and gave bushels away. He loved tinkering and made beautiful knives that he gave to friends and family. He loved cars, especially Chryslers and a few Cadillacs! Billy loved the Lord, he loved his life, he loved his family and he loved his country! He was the most wonderful Daddy to Rita (Steven) Cole and Sherri (Jarett) Rogin. Best Papa to Mitchell Vaughn (Sarah) Cole, Rachel Gail Cole, Luke Vaughn Rogin, Lily Renee Rogin, Lucy Claire Rogin and Great Grand Papa to Ryan Griffin Cole. Billy will be greatly missed by his many siblings, cousins and extended family and friends.
