Born in Jasonville, Indiana, Bettie was the daughter of John and Ressie (Meridith) Parriet. A graduate of Monroe High School, she was a hardworking, strong woman who loved her parents, siblings, daughter, and grandsons very much. Bettie was in good health most of her life, and she went to work even when she didn’t feel like it. She worked over 55 years and only missed 2 or 3 days due to illness over all of these years. Bettie worked 6 days a week at her jobs. Yet, she seldom complained about working and seldom took vacations. Even after retirement, she longed to have a job. One of Bettie’s first jobs was at Liparoto’s Bakery in Monroe, Michigan where she learned to decorate cakes. After that, she worked for her sister, Emma, and brother-in-law Charles Clark, in operating their store, Clark’s Market in Monroe. Bettie remained loyal to the store for almost 40 years until it closed in 1998. Yet, as the years passed, Bettie never gave up cake decorating. She decorated cakes for family members at first, but eventually, in 1985, she opened her own cake decorating business in Monroe, Michigan, called “Cake Creations.” Bettie closed the business in 2006. Thousands residents of Monroe and surrounding communities have enjoyed Bettie’s cakes as they celebrated birthdays, weddings, graduations, and other special occasions. Bettie’s best quality was that she tried to find the good in others. She followed the Golden Rule as she truly treated everyone she met with kindness. Bettie’s spirit of goodness will carry on through generations as her family emulates her as a role model worthy of respect. Bettie leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Debra (David) Young; two grandsons: Micah (Lynda) Young and Jonathan (Silvana Peralta) Young; a great granddaughter Lindsay Young; as well as a sister-in-law Janis Parriett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings: Earl (Dorothy) Parriet, Emma (Charles) Clark, Margie (Evan) Little, Loretta “Jane” Parriet and Gary (Janis) Parriett.
