Bernita “Bunny” Matt

Bunny Ann Matt, originally of Shelby, Michigan, passed away in her home in the presence of family in Riverview Michigan on September 17, 2024. Beloved wife to her husband of 53 years, George Matt. Loving mother of Michael (Jessica) Matt, Lesley (Paul) Tuttle and stepmother to Lynn Kell, Dave (Lynne) Matt, and Terri Blaine. Proud grandmother of grandsons Jared, Mitchell, Andrew, Hunter, Ryan, Asher, and granddaughters Kaleigh, Aubrey, Leah, Mackenzie, Avery, and great grandmother of nine beautiful children. Dear sister of Gary (Nancy) Alexander, Crystal (Joe) Ringwald, and Eric (Sally) Alexander. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Marjory Alexander.

Bunny graduated from Western Michigan University in 1967 and shortly thereafter became an Accountant for Chrysler in Detroit. During this time, she met and married her husband, George. After starting a family, Bunny became a dedicated homemaker who was very involved with volunteering at school. She also loved tending to her garden, baking, sewing, painting, and making crafts.

Later in life Bunny and George spent their winters in Fort Myers, Florida. They made many friends at their residence in Siesta Bay Resort and spent their golden years playing cards, line dancing, and relaxing in the pool and at the beach.

Bunny was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) around 2015 and fought valiantly for many years against this rare progressive disease. George remained a loyal caretaker at her side until her passing. She was loved by all, known for her calm gentleness and immense love for family. She will be deeply missed.

Visitation and Funeral will take place at the Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd., Trenton, MI 48183 – Visitation on Saturday, Sept 21st from 2-9pm and the funeral service will be Sunday, September 22nd at 10am.
