Bernie Merchak of Taylor, Michigan passed away in the late hours of Friday, April 14, 2023 at the age of 89 while surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 24 years to Bernice Merchak. Loving father of William (Patricia) Merchak, Ellen (Thomas) Yax, Andrew (Katherine) Merchak, Catherine (Christian) Schick, and Mary Carlson. Cherished grandpa of Phillip, Kevin, Nathan (Cari), Aaron (Samantha), Joseph (Julie), Alexander (Kelly), Jack, and Ashley (Jay). Dear great-grandpa of Eden, Josiah,James, Aubrey, and one more on-the-way. Bernie was preceded in death by his first wife Theresa Merchak, his parents Joseph and Mary Merchak, and his two brothers; Andrew and Joseph Merchak. He will be deeply missed by many loving family and friends.
Visitation for Bernie will take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 10915 Allen Road, 48101. There will be a Knights of Columbus service held that evening at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will take place the following day, Thursday, April 20, 2023 at St. Constance Catholic Church located at 21555 Kinyon, Taylor, MI 48180. 10:00 a.m. In State and 11:00 a.m. Mass. The Downriver Veterans Honor Guard will be performing military honors following the Mass. Bernie’s remains will be inurned at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
