Bernard J. Tabor

Click on tribute wall above to view Bernard's memorial video. Bernard John Tabor of Riverview passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Beloved husband to the late Geraldine (née Blanzy). Caring father to Jennifer (Eric) Fretz, Stephanie (Michael) Binsfeld, and Brett (Emily) Tabor. Adored grandfather to Kathryn, Mason, Madison, Abrielle, Ashley, Charlotte, Lauren, Ennalyse, Victoria, and Elizabeth. “Bernie” was born the youngest of four children in Chicago, Illinois on October 9, 1928, to Bernice (née Wisniewski) and Albert “George” Tabor. A strong work ethic followed him from an early age, as he held multiple jobs from his early teens through college. After completing high school in Chicago and Army service in Korea, he completed his Bachelor’s degree at DePaul University. He studied podiatry, then osteopathic medicine, graduating from Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1966. He married Geraldine (née Blanzy) Tabor on December 29, 1962. In 1969, he settled in Riverview, Michigan to begin raising his family and embark on a 40+ year career of serving the Downriver medical community as a family practice physician. While he focused immense amounts of time and energy caring for his family, patients, and community, Bernie also enjoyed travel, watching sports, and dining out. If you were traveling through Chicago, you always stopped to get a Chicago Italian beef sandwich to bring home to him! He especially enjoyed trips to Walt Disney World and taking Disney cruises with his family. His grandchildren loved hearing stories of his younger and more carefree and rambunctious days in Chicago and ‘the old neighborhood’. Funeral services will take place Saturday, August 1st, at St. Cyprian Catholic Church in Riverview, with viewing/visitation beginning at 9 am and Mass beginning at 10 am.
