Arthur James LaPrad, age 83 of Flat Rock, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024. Born November 12, 1940 at home on the farm in Monroe, Arthur was the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Hammer) LaPrad. He graduated from Monroe Catholic Central in 1959, then honorably served in the United States Air Force from October 9, 1959 until October 9, 1963. He married Martha (Smolinski) “Mamoo” on April 24, 1964 celebrating nearly 58 years of marriage until her death March 18, 2022.
Arthur worked at Allied Chemical in their lab, Dana Corporation stamping bumpers, and as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Detroit Edison coal plant for over 19 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting and splitting wood for his wood stove. His most treasured times were vacations with his family, especially driving/ sight seeing to California.
His memory and stories will continue on through his family - Son, Terry (Kimmarie) LaPrad and daughter Tammy (Jimmy) Liedel; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (Justen) Sharpe, James Liedel III (Alysha), Madeleine (Michael) Daniels, 1st Lieutenant Kevin LaPrad, Lyra LaPrad and Natalie LaPrad; 2 great grandchildren: Willow Grant and Malcolm Daniels; as well as 4 siblings: David (Rose) LaPrad, Paul (Joyce) LaPrad, Janice Beaudrie and Barbara Jennings. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 8 siblings.
A memorial and celebration of Arthur’s life has been planned under the care of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes-Ford Chapel; 23620 N. Huron River Dr., Rockwood. Friends may call Friday from 1:00pm to 8:00pm with a Rosary at 6:00pm. His funeral Mass will be Saturday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He will lie in state from 9:30am; Mass begins at 10:00am. His procession will go to Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery where he will be buried next to his wife.
