Arthur Eugene Chambers was born in Cadillac, Michigan on July 23, 1923 to Madeline Opp Chambers and Russell R. Chambers. Arthur spent his childhood at Houghton Lake, where the family owned the Gray Goose Inn, run by his mother while his father worked for Ford in Dearborn. He and younger brother Russell of Greenville, Texas often recalled adventures they shared in the Depression era Michigan northwoods. After moving to Detroit he attended Cooley High School where he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Newell. They would enjoy sixty five years of marriage. Mr. Chambers served in the Army after briefly attending Michigan State University. Following a medical discharge, he and Jacqueline were married. His career began as a draftsman and tool designer for the auto industry in Detroit, then to Morse Chain Co., Ithaca, NY as Chief Tooling Designer. A job offer back in Michigan followed and Art and family of five moved to Grosse Ile while he became Vice President of Eglinton Carbide Products in Wyandotte. In the early sixties Art Chambers bought Eglinton Carbide. which evolved into Carbidex Corporation. Carbidex produced parts for the growing electronic and computer industry with facilities in Southgate MI and Phoenix AZ. He was a longtime Director of the former Security Bank, Life member of Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club, member Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, AZ where he and Jacqueline were winter residents for many years. A founding Board member of the Grosse Ile Airport Commission and longtime supporter of the Michigan Dyslexia Institute. Arthur was an inventor and patent holder, entrepreneur, world traveler, art collector, hunter and fisherman, licensed pilot, scuba diver, lover of food, wine and merriment. He and Jacqueline participated in the Grosse Ile Boar's Head Festival since its inception in the early eighties. Preceded in death by wife Jacqueline and son Thomas (Linda Demmer), Survived by brother Russell (Terry), sons Robert (Christine) and Russell (Kathryn) and daughter Kathrine (Lee Nicholson) Chambers. Grandchildren are Elizabeth Philips, Justin, Christopher and Nicholas Antoniotti, Krista Maiullo, Russell, Jonathon, Alan, John, Joseph and Kelly Chambers. Great grandchildren are Josh, Zackery, Katelyn, Isabella, Sare, Jackson, Avery and Olivia.
