A devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, godmother, aunt, great aunt, and friend, Toni was born and raised by her late parents, Stanley and Sophie (Opoka) Szejda, life-time residents of the Polish community of Wyandotte. Mother of Richard Carl, Toni was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard, and her infant son, Brian Stanley, The Szejda household was full of life and camaraderie; Toni's siblings were the late Carol (Judy) Szejda; Rosalie (Dominic) D'Annunzio, S. J. (Joe) Szejda, Susie (Frank) Miklaski, Patti (Rich) Bozoian, Pamela Szejda, and Julie (Rob) Yennerell. Toni was the organizer and host of many family events, from birthdays, anniversaries, surprise parties, and holidays, making sure all extended family members were included and had a "task" to do. Her six, surviving siblings and her dear friend and Richard's caregiver, Stacey Rogalski, are among her the many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, godchildren --- Peter D'Annunzio, Sarah (Miklaski) Smith, Andrew (AJ) Bozoian, and Sarah (Yennerell) Arsenault --- friends, in-laws, and acquaintances who bereave her passing. A devout Catholic, Toni was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini in Allen Park, St. Joseph's and St. Timothy's in Trenton, and of the pastoral community at Brownstown Forest View, where she set up the altar, rounded up the residents, and helped Father Lesniak of St. Timothy's with his Tuesday Masses at Forest View. Toni received her BA from Madonna College and her MA from Eastern Michigan and taught science and mathematics in several schools and districts, among them Heintzen Middle School, Schaefer High School, and Lincoln Park, Detroit, and San Diego School Districts. Once retiring from teaching, she graciously offered her free-of-charge tutoring services to any who needed help. Toni served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph's and for the homebound; she delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at Richard's school and served on her Islandview Condo Board. She always wanted to be involved, eager and willing to give her services to anyone she could help. A friend to many, especially the less fortunate, she was loved by all who knew her, especially her caregivers. Toni was truly an inspiration to all. Generous, gracious, loving, thoughtful, caring, and witty --- even a bit sarcastic, Toni loved mental challenges, especially Jeopardy, Boggle, Trivial Pursuit, and game shows. "Junk" shopping and finding second-hand, "treasures" brought her much happiness, always showering family and friends with her special "finds." She endured, without complaint, the many hardships and medical issues, in her life-time, which were numerous. She was called home to God as a "a good and faithful servant." Toni will be missed and mourned on Earth, but happy with her Savior and Lord. Memorial contributions may be made to Paragon Support Systems, which her son Richard attends and where his caregiver Stacey Rogalski is employed.
