Anna Pluckhorn

Anna Pluckhorn. Age 93 of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Trenton, Michigan. Passed away July 22, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Frank Pluckhorn. Loving mother of Gerald (Patricia Linehan) Pawlowski, Christine (Richard) Holst and Annette Hollingsworth. Proud Busia of Douglas, Matthew, Amy, Megan, April and Melissa. Great grandmother of 11. Preceded in death by parents Michael and Anne Fedan, 7 siblings, 1st husband Walter Pawlowski, son David Pawlowski and grandson Brock Holst. Anna had a remarkable life. At the age of 14, she, her 7 siblings and parents were captured by German Nazi’s in their Polish village home, and sent to work camps in Poland, Germany and Siberia. After being liberated by the Allies, she was was moved to a relocation camp In Dieholzen, Germany, where she met and married her first husband, Walter, a Polish POW. They were able to emigrate to the United States with their 4 year old son, Jurek ( Gerald), on a large ship of immigrants, where women and children bunked in one area, men, another. She was so seasick during the passage she just wanted to be on land, she didn’t care where. They settled in Toledo, Ohio, where they had 3 more children, learned English , worked hard, and learned to love their new home. Anna was quick to laugh, dance, speak her mind and love her family. She was a talented gardener, cooked Polish meals her children still talk about, loved to “ play the ponies” and play with her cat, Kiki. . One of her favorite memories was traveling to meet the Polish Pope. For the last few years of her life she lived at the Glendale Assisted Living in Toledo where she met many new friends and acquired a new “family” who always appreciated her outspoken personality.
