Alexander Z. Petri, Jr.
June 21, 1941 to September 19, 2024
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and patriarch, Alexander Z. Petri, Jr., passed away at the age of 83, leaving an enduring legacy of love, family, and community.
From Lincoln Park, Al was the devoted husband of Carol Petri and the loving father of six children: Deborah (Don, deceased 2014) Van Cleave, Alexander III (Debra) Petri, Diane (Gary) Dean, Vicky (Fred) Bryson, Christina (Mary) Driggett, James (Anna) Driggett,
Al's family expanded through his grandchildren: Brandon Rodriguez, Garry Dean Jr, Mark Kaleugher, the late David Petri (1982), Jason (Melanie) Petri, Stephen (Vanessa) Kaleugher, Darrell (Tabatha) Vassey, Donald Van Cleave II, Elizabeth (Jeff) Basim, Erin (Robert) Stoner, Loren (Michael) Higgins, Jill (Jake) Froehly, Jen (Jeremy) Witkowski, Josh (Jessica) McCollum, and Spencer (Kallyn) Drigett. He cherished his 34 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Petri, and long-time partner, Esther Perugi, Al's love and commitment to family were unwavering.
As the second-generation owner of Al Petri & Sons Bicycles, Al's passion for cycling was evident. He was a long time member of the Downriver Cycling Club and enjoyed sharing his expertise with others. Al also delighted in ping pong and mentoring new players.
With Carol, his loving wife, Al savored simple pleasures: strolls, porch time, community theater, classic TV shows, and church gatherings, always hand-in-hand.
Al's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and community. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations
