Adeline Milewski

Adeline M. Milewski, age 97, of Allen Park, MI, passed away on November 26. She suddenly fell ill from high glucose, suffered a diabetic coma resulting in unrecoverable medical issues. She is the beloved wife of Marcel for 75 years. They had 5 children together Diana (James), Elaine (Raymond), Marcel, Adele (William), and Rosanne (Russell). They are blessed with 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Adeline was the 6th of 7 children, born in Ecorse, MI to Polish immigrants, Joseph Abramczyk and Rosalie Salebura, preceded in death by her siblings Mary Fijal, Helen Szalkie, Frank Abramczyk, Stephana Feetham, Joseph Abramczyk, and Rose Adamus. Graduating as the class secretary from Ecorse High School in 1943, she held jobs at Bowen Products in Ecorse and Michigan Bell Telephone in Detroit. Adeline and Marcel were set up on a date by a mutual friend who thought they would be a good match together. They fell deeply in love but were abruptly interrupted by WWII. Marcel was drafted by the Army to serve in Europe while Adeline contributed to the war efforts as an original “Rosie the Riveter”, polishing military aircraft propellers at a war converted Ford Motor Co. plant. After enduring a very long-distance relationship, Marcel returned from the war, and they married August 31, 1946. Their first apartment was in the basement of a small house next to the railroad tracks in Wyandotte. Their favorite pastime was reading comic books such as Popeye the Sailorman and Donald Duck. They lived in Wyandotte until they moved to Allen Park in 1961. Adeline was a dedicated wife and mother and a wonderful homemaker with her delectable baked goods being legendary. Our family favorites are her famous homemade pineapple rolls and cheesecake which have become traditional desserts at Easter and Christmas time. A master of crocheting, Adeline needled hundreds of intricately patterned afghan blankets throughout her lifetime, sharing them with others as symbols of her love. A faithful friend of many, Adeline created fun for everyone by hosting parties, bowling on a weekly league and attending ladies card club. An enthusiastic bird watcher, flower, and nature lover, she inspired everyone to “stop and smell the roses.” Adeline also enjoyed adventure and made frequent trips to northern Michigan, went camping with Pathfinders and traveled with her husband and family, sisters, and friends. Adeline’s beautiful smile, pure sweetness and endless affection for her family will be deeply missed! Private funeral services were held at Martenson Funeral Home and Our Lady of Hope Cemetery. A memorial mass will be planned to celebrate her life in the future.
