Adele Vivian (nee Kronk) Sommerville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving and devoted family February 16, 2017. She was the cherished wife of 58 years to the late Ernest. She was the last of nine children born to Andrew and Agnes Kronk on February 2, 1922 at home, and grew up in Detroit, MI. Beloved mother of Marie (Charles) Phillips, Michael Sommerville, Catherine (William) Martin, Ernest (Laura) Sommerville, John Sommerville, Joseph (Brenda) Sommerville, Anne (Vincent) Robichaud and Susan (Jozsef) deTassanyi. Cherished grandmother of Jeffrey, Jason, Giselle, Daniel, Jillian, Paul, Jennifer, Marc, Mathew, Timothy, Alyssa, Jozsef, Alexander and Adelyn. Great grandmother of Richard, Kristen, Chase, Addison and Rylee. She attended St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and grade school, which was predominantly Polish. It was here that she learned to speak and understand Polish, Latin, and French, and write lovely poetry. She then graduated from St. Joseph Academy high school in Adrian (private boarding school), where she enjoyed being captain of the women's basketball team during her senior year. While she loved her reading, ,music and math were her favorite subjects through school. She would go on to excel in learning and playing numerous instruments for the school band, such as piano (which she mastered), violin and various horn instruments. She had a beautiful soprano singing voice and could also conduct an orchestra. After high school, she graduated with a Bachelors in Music Education from Marygrove College, since teaching children brought her great joy. She played piano or sang at many concerts. At the age of 23, she started a masters program in teaching at Wayne State University. During the day, she taught music to grade school children for several years in Detroit while attending night classes. About halfway through the program, at the age of 27, she met her late husband, Ernest, who was also attending night classes. After their initial (blind) date, he called her every night and in two weeks, they were engaged. It was approximately 1 ½ years later that they started their family. She and Ernie shared a very deep faith in God, and as true representatives of their unconditional love and faith, they continued to lead others on this path as well. She was a beautiful guiding light for all her family and friends. Although she had health challenges, especially in her later years, she preferred to be a beacon of God's light in this world projecting that light through her beautiful smile and eyes, as well as her kind words and actions. Her deep love for family, along with her patience and kindness will be so dearly missed by all. Click on the multimedia tab to view Adele's video tribute.
