LUMIA, VIVIAN RUTH, age 85 of Trenton, formerly of Southgate, went to be with The Lord April 30, 2013. Vivian was born in Detroit on June 8, 1927 and was raised in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Loving mother of Phil (Linda) Lumia, Karen (Ron) Jarrett, Sue Kowalewski and Linda Lumia Gordon. Proud Grams of Scott (Nicole) Kowalewski, Jeff Kowalewski, Sarah (Aaron) Biniarz, Dave Jarrett, Rachel Gerlach and Greg Jarrett. Great Grandma of Jakob Kowalewski, Nickolas Kowalewski and Bradley Biniarz. Friend and former Wife of Gasper Lumia. Preceded in death by parents Gizella ("Jessie") Goldsmith and Harold (Mozelle) Goldsmith, a sister Marilyn (Chuck) Charters and a great grandson Anthony Biniarz. Vibrant, selfless and loyal, she was a woman of strength, dignity and humility. She was an example of everything you could only hope to be. Vivian embraced life and all it had to offer. She always had a smile on her face, and a contagious laugh. She loved the simple things in life and got the most joy being with her family. Vivian instilled in her family how important family is; to be helpful to those in need; and to be kind, loving, caring and giving. She always put her family and others before herself. She saw good in everything and everyone. Vivian's faith was strong in the Lord. She was not afraid to die because she knew she would be with The Lord in eternal rest. After graduating from Lincoln Park High School, where she remained close friends with many of her classmates well into her 80's, she went on to work as an assistant to Dr. Lynn at the Lynn Hospital until marrying her husband, Gasper Lumia. Vivian desired to be a stay-at-home Mom, which was a blessing to all of her children. After her children were in school, she sold Avon part-time for many years, and then went on to become a licensed Real Estate Agent, working for Realty World in Allen Park. Her greatest passion remained being a housewife, making home-cooked meals for her family seven days a week - making sure the whole family gathered every night at the dinner table for a family meal. Vivian was a great cook and excelled at baking. She will always be remembered for her many years of family New Years Eve parties where all her family, Mother, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins would come and ring in the New Year. Vivian had many interests. She was an avid bowler for many years. She was known for her love of Yaztzee, Cribbage, Pinochle, and playing every kind of card game imaginable. When she decided she wanted to learn how to paint, she took art classes and became quite an accomplished artist, working with Charcoal and Oil paintings. She even took up ice-skating when she was in her 50's. Although Vivian and Gasper eventually divorced, they remained friends through the years. She returned to work as a secretary for a Non-Profit Agency in Downtown Detroit, and loved all the excitement of working in a large city. After retiring, she settled in at Deaconess Towers in Southgate where she happily resided for 18 years. She made many friends while living there and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Vivian will be greatly missed by her children, her family, her friends, and all others whose lives she touched. She will remain in our hearts forever. With that being said, we all take great comfort in knowing she is in Heaven resting with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her suffering is over - God has called her home. May she rest in Peace. {Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice}.
