Michael Dean Stiles

Michael Stiles, 67, beloved husband and father, passed away at home and surrounded by his loved ones, early morning, May 7th. He was born January 9th 1956 in Detroit Michigan, to Lenora and Walter Stiles, and the middle of their six children: Terry, David, Steve, Michael, Peggy, and Chris. After graduating from Carlson High School, he worked with his parents at a GM factory.

Michael met the love of his life, Cathy Stiles at Rockwood First Congregational Church, and the two were married in September, 1984 . Shortly after getting married, Michael enlisted in the United States Army, where he had a distinguished career as a Staff Sergeant, and retired after 30 years of service. Michael and Cathy returned to South Rockwood, where he continued working as a civilian until his retirement in the summer of 2015. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, and their three adult children: Sabrina, Matthew, and Andrew.

He brought a true talent for numbers and understanding complex processes to those around him. He volunteered as treasurer / assistant treasurer for the Rockwood First Congregational Church for over 30 years, in addition to a career in the insurance industry, his friends, family, and those around him came to depend on him, helping with filing taxes and navigating challenging life circumstances.

A devoted man of God, Michael provided an example for his children to aspire to. He viewed each problem in life as a chance to develop character and excel, and gave back to his spiritual community on many occasions by filling the pulpit at Rockwood First Congregational Church, where his father had been pastor, as needs arose.

Michael was known for having a smile on his face, and a kind word for everyone he met. Anyone who interacted with him couldn’t help but laugh along. A natural born storyteller with a wit as sharp as a tack, he saw only the best in people, and in turn, inspired those around him to be the best versions of themselves. He leaves a legacy of wisdom and cheerful guidance behind as he goes into the Lord's embrace. He will be dearly missed.

The memorial for Michael Stiles will take place on Friday, May 19th at Rockwood First Congregational Church, 22600 Mather St, Rockwood, MI 48173. There will be an in-state visitation at 11:00am, followed by a service at 1:00pm.

After the service there will be a reception with food, and in keeping with Michael's well-known sweet tooth, desserts!
