John W. Cox

John W. Cox, age 86 formerly of Grosse Ile, MI passed away August 29, 2022 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia for 44 years. Loving dad of John Robert Cox II, Caroline Mary Whittemore (Brian Bunch), Kimberly Louise Vasicek, Thomas John Cox (Christine) and previously deceased loving daughter Tamara "Tami" Margaret Cox (1980-1989). Proud grandpa of Ashley Elizabeth Cox, Kirk James Whittemore, Christina Lynn Whittemore, Jacob Benjamin Vasicek, Winifred "Winnie" Jane Cox, Paul Thomas Cox, Patrick John Cox and great-grandpa of Chase Palazzolo, Gage Palazzolo, Willow Whittemore and Skyler Whittemore. He also leaves behind his loving extended family members "son" Carlos Sosa, sister Lois. Also, many brothers, sisters and in laws, several nephews and nieces, hunting and fishing friends, many work family friends and neighbors.

John was born in Cleveland, Ohio before moving to Michigan in 1965. He lived life while enjoying family, boating, fishing and hunting. He was a proud supporter of Ducks Unlimited. John collected duck decoys, duck prints and wood carvings included some local artists. He spent hours woodworking, making wood duck houses, hundreds of bird houses, his own his boat, his own ice shanty, and a very special treasure chest. John loved fraters; having done ship repair on many of the Great Lakes Fraters. John retired from DTE Energy working at the Fermi II Power Plant.
John fought the fight of his life against Myelofibrosis. The RenssellaerPolytechnic Institute (RPI) Graduate Engineer, fix everything kind of guy, for the second time in his life, after trying very, very hard just couldn’t fix this.

In lieu of flowers to honor John's memory, he has chosen the following charities to accept donations: 1: Kids Without Cancer (Renamed in 2011) formerly Leukemia Research Life (1981-2010) which helps fund research being done at Children's Hospital of Michigan and its affiliates Wayne State University and the Karmanos Cancer Institute. 2: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. Together, they create life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. When a wish comes true, it creates strength, hope and transformation in a child and a community.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 12pm - 4 pm at Smokies on the Water.25555 West River Rd., Grosse Ile, Michigan 48138
