Joanne Colasinski

Joanne Augusta Colasinski of Taylor, MI passed away on Friday March 21st 2025 at the age of 91. She was born in Detroit, MI on November 8th, 1933 to William and Anna (Schultz) Green. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Margaret, Mary (Charles), William (Margaret), Katherine (Paul), Patricia (Raymond) and Virginia (Dominic) and her husband of 66 years, Robert. She is survived by her brother James (Joan). Joanne is also survived by her nine children Carol, Steve (Amy), Paul, Thomas, Katherine (Bob), Gregory (Melissa), Joseph (Julie), Julie (Scott) and Susan (Joseph). She adored her grandchildren Sara, Nicholas, Robert, Craig, Keith, Lindsay, Derek, Bradley, Crystal, Christopher, Mitchell, David, Joseph, Anastasia and Alexander. Joanne’s joy continued with the birth of her great grandchildren Oliver, Liam, Lola, Ethan, Alina, Dominic, Ronin, Jakob, Alyssa, Bailey, Faith, Abigail and Cecilia. She loved visiting with her 63 nieces and nephews and their extended families.

Joanne was born during the Great Depression and was raised in the shadow of WWII. But her stories of her childhood on Dragoon St were always full of joy. Joanne spent time with family and friends traveling, dancing and exploring Detroit. She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in 1951 and took a job with Michigan Bell. Her desk was in the historic lobby of the Guardian Building. She married her high school sweetheart Robert in 1954. Bob and Joanne moved to Denmark Street on the Rouge River. They lived there for the birth of their first three children. They moved to the house in Taylor, which still had dirt roads at the time, they were blessed with six more children. Joanne was a loving mom. She also enjoyed shopping and going to lunch with her beloved sisters. When she had a free minute, she loved to read historical fiction.

As her children started to leave the nest. Joanne began to babysit Juliana and then Frankie. Babysitting kept her young and reminded her of raising her own children. She also became a grandmother and spoiled her grandkids with love and maybe too much candy. Bob and Joanne also traveled often and enjoyed playing the slots.

Joanne’s happiest times were spent at Rondeau Park, Ontario. She spent summers there from childhood through her 50’s. It started as camping with her sister’s families. And ended with renting a cottage with her family for three weeks each July. She loved the beach, taking long walks, birdwatching, antiquing, eating too much ice cream and being with her sisters whose cottages were nearby.
