George Maxie Cates

George Maxie Cates, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anita (Merriman) Cates and son Gary and his family. George was born at Cuba Landing, TN to the late Glennie and Alice (Little) Cates. He is survived by his brother, Dennis Russell Cates, and wife Brenda. He is the brother of the late James Cates, Dewey Cates, Louise Parnell, and Frances Allsbrooks. Surviving him are 8 nephews and 7 nieces, also 8 great nephews and 8 great nieces. George was a former Engineer at Ford Motor Company and managed several design and engineering programs. After retirement he contracted for 10 years in the automotive-industrial arena, working with Prince Corporation of Holland, Michigan. He went on to teach at LISD Tech Center in Adrian, Michigan.
