Eleanor Gonsalez

Eleanor Gonsalez of Trenton, Michigan passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Canton on Monday, September 12, 2022 at the age of 93. Beloved wife of 47 years to Antonio Gonsalez. Loving mother of Cris (Christine) Kurtz, Cathy (Carl) Christensen, Lynn (Jacob) Kamakaris, the late Anthony (Robin) Gonsalez, Kristina (Kevin) Hibbs, Nancy (Joseph) Chadwell, and David (Jacque) Gonsalez. Cherished grandmother of Melanie, Danielle, David, Jason, Tracy, Barry, Kelle, Philip, John, Kari, Daniel, Stephen, Jennipher, and Joseph. Sweet great-grandmother of 19. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Ivy Rawlings and her siblings Donald (the late Gloria) Rawlings and Charlotte (the late Russ) Sleep. She also leaves behind several cherished nieces.

Having grown up in Dearborn, Michigan, she graduated from Dearborn High School. She worked for many years in retail at the Taylor A&P food store while her children were growing up. She then became a nanny, helping to raise children for families of teachers from birth until they started school. She would then go on to grace another family with her love and caring touch.

After retirement, her hobbies were knitting, cooking and baking and she was usually found in her great smelling kitchen. She was a lifelong knitter, making clothing and afghans for family members. She lovingly donated hundreds of knit winter hats to needy families in Detroit and camouflage hats with face masks to the military. Eleanor and Tony were very fond of dancing and could be found dancing the night away most weekends.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 10915 Allen Road, 48101. The family will be having a private Celebration of Life for Eleanor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Grace Hospice of Ann Arbor in Eleanor’s honor.
