Ada M. Reaume

Ada M. Reaume Newport – Ada M. Reaume, age 94, of Newport, Michigan passed away peacefully at 9:45pm Friday, April 2, 2021 with her family by her side at her home in Newport, MI. Born November 16, 1926 in South Rockwood, Michigan. Ada was the daughter of the late Chauncey and Hazel (Chinavare) Roberts. She married Alvie J. Reaume on June 21, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rockwood. Sadly, he preceded Ada in death on December 27, 1994. Ada was a 1945 graduate of South Rockwood High School. Upon graduation she worked in the Accounts Receivable department of Revere Copper & Brass in Detroit, Michigan. She later devoted her life to being an admirable homemaker for her family. In addition to being a homemaker, Ada played an integral part in the family farm. Ada enjoyed cooking and baking wonderful meals for her family and friends. She took great pleasure in presenting her meals on perfectly pressed tablecloths; and always had plenty to share with others. Her hobbies included refinishing furniture, wallpapering, and all things related to interior decorating. She took great pride in maintaining the family’s stately old farmhouse on the Reaume homestead where she refinished all the mopboards and woodwork throughout the entire house. Ada was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Newport where she was a member of the Altar Society and a volunteer librarian for St. Charles School. Ada, and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Roberts, shared many fun times and memories volunteering as co-chairs of many Altar Society functions. Her devout Catholic faith was instrumental in every aspect of her life; and she prayed the rosary daily her entire life. When Ada suffered a stroke in September 2015 her first spoken words as she regained consciousness were decades of the rosary. However, she never dedicated a rosary to herself; and always dedicated them to her loved ones – children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. Following her husband’s death, Ada lived independently in their home for 17 years and for the last 10 years her son, Dennis, resided with her and provided remarkable care for her. In the later years, all the siblings and her caregivers continued to care for Ada in the comforts of her home. The Reaume family would like to thank all of Ada’s caregivers, including Misty, Jackie, Peggy, Taylor, and Barb for their help and compassion over the last few years. Ada is survived by five children: Nancy (Kenneth) Duffey of Ida, Dennis Reaume of Newport, David (Denise) Reaume of Newport, Beth Chapman of South Rockwood, and Patricia (Larry) Geiman of Carleton; three sisters: Donna Granger of Trenton, Mary (Frank) Stasa of Carleton, and Betty (Dennis) Beste of Carleton; two brothers: Duane (Margaret) Roberts of Royal Oak and Thomas (Sharon) Roberts of Milan; nine grandchildren: Michelle (Paul) McLaughlin, Melissa (Robert) Gargol, Stephanie (Ergun Oturak) Reaume, Stacey (Eric) Reaume-Schmidt, Bryant Chapman, Ryan Geiman, Kate Geiman, Kelsey Geiman, and Bradford Chapman; three great grandchildren: Grace Gargol, Brooke Gargol, and Ethan McLaughlin; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Roberts of Newport. In addition to her parents and husband, Ada was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Roberts; a sister. Helen Gaynier; two brothers-in-law, Mose Gaynier and George Granger; and a son-in-law, Gary Chapman, whom she cherished as a son. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Charles Academy and St. Charles Parish in Newport.
