Frederick David "Fred" Hollister Sr.

Frederick “Fred” David Hollister Sr., 84 of Harrison passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. Frederick was born November 13, 1936, in Allen Park, Michigan the son of Frederick Alan Hollister and Jemima (Fraser) Hollister. Mr. Hollister entered into the Air National Guard in 1955, while he was still in High School. Fred graduated from Roosevelt High School, Wyandotte, Mi. in 1956. Immediately following his graduation, Mr. Hollister enlisted in the United States Air Force and honorably served his country from 1955-1968, while he was enlisted, Fred became a pilot. Frederick was united in marriage to the former Beverly Ann Reaume on September 6, 1958. Mrs. Hollister preceded Fred in death on May 20, 2013, after fifty-four years of marriage. Fred had resided in Harrison since 1993, moving from Newport, Michigan. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, where he served as past parish council board member. Fred worked for General Motors from 1959 to 1981. He was a machinist by trade and machined parts for the Edmund Fitzgerald as well as being involved in the launching. Fred traveled each year to Whitefish Point, Michigan for the ringing of the memorial bell, honoring those who perished during the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. He was honored to do this until 2019. Fred owned and operated Hollister Excavating for many years. He owned and operated Arnold Aviation, where he was a Flight Instructor and was the owner and operator More Inc., a window manufacturing company that only employed handicapped workers. Fred belonged and was heavily involved in many organizations to include: Knights of Columbus Council 1266, Verona Fathers, American Legion Post 404, Harrison Moose Lodge and Family Center #2235, 40et8 Clare County Voiture 767, NCOA-Air Force, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans and Swan Boat Club. Mr. Hollister was passionate about helping the mentally impaired, as he volunteered countless years assisting with the Special Olympics. He loved traveling throughout the United States aboard his motor coach. He made new friends on each venture, friends who loved him dearly. Surviving Mr. Hollister are his loving children, one daughter, Theresa L. Ferguson and husband Scott of Brownstown, Michigan, one son, Frederick David Hollister Jr. and wife Pam of Harrison, four grandchildren: Kelin Ferguson and wife Greta, Nancy Oliver, Kelsey Taylor and Cody Taylor, one great-grandson, Beckett Oliver, one son-in-law, Jim Taylor of South Rockwood, Michigan, one sister, Dolly Toker of Pompano Beach, Florida, one brother-in-law, Howard Yeski of Canton, Michigan, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Mr. Hollister also was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Tammy L. Taylor, one sister, Carole Yeski and one brother-in-law, Julius Toker. Memorial contributions can be made to Special Olympics of Michigan.
